What is permanent make-up ?
Permanent make-up or semi-permanent enhancement (make-up) is a cosmetic technique by which pigment is infused to enhance a particular facial or body feature also which employs tattoos (permanent pigmentation of the dermis) as a means of producing designs that resemble makeup, such as eyelining and other permanent enhancing colors to the skin of the face, lips, and eyelids. It is also used to produce artificial eyebrows, particularly in people who have lost them as a consequence of old age, disease, such as alopecia totalis, chemotherapy, or a genetic disturbance, and to disguise scars and white spots in the skin such as in vitiligo. A groundbreaking scope of permanent make-up is breast reconstruction. Patients who have undergone breast surgery can have the areola reconstructed with infused colour for a very natural look.
How is the technique different from tattooing?
Tattoos are performed by infusing colour deeper into the skin, making it a lifetime commitment. In semi-permanent enhancement, the deposition of colour is at a level that makes it a three- to five-year commitment.
What’s a typical procedure like?
First there is a thorough consultation to determine the aesthetic needs of a client. A hands-on non-permanent make-up demonstration is given to show the probable end-result. Two topical anaesthetics are used to reduce the sensation during the procedure. Pigment selection is a very vital part of the procedure, hence the expert must be well versed in the science of colour. We use BABTAC-approved machines with fully disposable cartridges, gently infusing pigment into the desired areas. Aftercare is also very essential and the client goes home with proper instructions along with an aftercare form.
Can it be removed?
Since it is semi-permanent, light camouflage works quite well to remove an undesired effect. However, in all my years of practice I have never had a request for removal.
Who is it for?
Well, definitely for the young and the restless, who are always on the go. Semi-permanent enhancements work very well for the sportsperson who is always either swimming, hiking, playing tennis or spending time at the gym and does not want to have streaming mascara all over her face! Flight attendants who are always on the move and would like to wake up with make-up are big takers, as are senior citizens who find it difficult to apply make-up. Then, of course, there are cancer patients who have undergone breast surgery and reconstruction.
Finally, does it have any side effects?
Yes! It brings you more compliments than you can handle and a desire to have more enhancements performed!.

Different Types of Permanent Make-Up Available @ eEpiderma Laser Clinic
1. Micro-pigmentation for Vitiligo / Leucoderma
Micropigmentation is a technique in which minute, metabolically inert pigment granules are implanted below the epidermis for cosmetic and/or corrective enhancement. Typically two to four treatments are necessary. The process can be performed in a doctor’s office in less than two hours. Topical anesthetics are sometimes applied to keep the patient comfortable during the procedure. Pigments are individually mixed to match the patient’s skin. Results can be seen immediately, though full end results are not apparent for about three weeks.
