Subcision is an incisionless surgical technique which addresses the 2 major issues associated with acne scar. The depression of acne scar is because of 2 reasons – development of fibrous band that connects the dermal layer with subcutaneous layer of skin and lack of collagen production after the healing process (post-acne). Subcision breaks the fibrosis, releases the dermal layer and triggers the collagen production resulting in reduction of scar depression. It is performed with hydrodermic needle of 24 G size. Other type of scars caused by wound, chicken pox or surgery can also be treated.

Subcision Procedure Details:

Acne scar is marked and prepared for procedure.
Topical anaesthesia is applied for numbing the skin area.
Hypodermic needle is inserted directly beneath the scar and put into action with back & forth action.
The fibrous band is released.
Once the procedure is completed, the needle is removed.
Pressure and ice pack is applied for controlling the bleeding.
The marked acne scar is treated and patient is allowed to rest for some time.
Medication including the antibiotics and anti-inflammatory is prescribed and patient is guided on post-procedure care.

The procedure not only involves inserting the needle into dermal layer but also to and fro motion of the needle which may cause damage to blood capillaries and cause bleeding. 2. In how many days does the healing happen?

Subcision procedure involves the deeper layers of skin, hence will take around 8-10 days for healing followed by 8-10 weeks of resolution. The resolution procedure continues even after the few months which is reflected in the enhancement of skin texture and look.

3. The results will be visible in how many weeks?
